How Chrissy's Ironing Service handles your personal information, why we need it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated 1 August 2026

Chrissy's Ironing Service is a small local business, and the data we hold reflects that. We collect what is needed to collect, iron and return your clothes, and nothing else. We do not sell data, we do not run marketing lists, and we do not share your details with third parties for their own purposes.

1. Who we are

Chrissy's Ironing Service is the data controller for the information described in this policy. The business is run by Christine Cawthron and operates from Methley, West Yorkshire, serving the towns listed on our service areas page and roughly 5 miles around them.

You can contact us about anything in this policy by phone on 07979 502210 or by email at info@chrissyironingservice.co.uk.

2. What information we collect

We collect only what we need to carry out the service you have asked for.

Information you give us

  • Contact details — your name, phone number and email address, so we can confirm collection windows and send booking confirmations.
  • Collection address — your street address and postcode, and any collection safe place you nominate for when you are out.
  • Order details — the service you have asked for, a rough or exact item count, your preferred date and window, and any notes you add about particular garments.
  • Enquiry content — whatever you write in the contact form, an email or a text message.
  • Business account details — for commercial customers, a business name, billing address and the names of staff whose garments are being sorted.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic technical data — anonymous information such as page views and approximate region, used only to understand which pages are useful. This does not identify you personally.

We do not collect payment card details at any point. Payment is taken in cash on the doorstep or by bank transfer directly between your bank and ours, so no card data ever passes through this website.

3. Why we use it

  • To arrange, confirm and carry out your collection and delivery.
  • To contact you about a specific order — for example, to text before arrival or to raise a query about a garment.
  • To calculate what you owe and to provide a receipt or, for account customers, a monthly invoice.
  • To keep an accurate record of orders for accounting and tax purposes.
  • To answer an enquiry you have sent us.

We do not use your details for marketing. You will not be added to a mailing list, and we will not contact you about anything other than the service you have booked or asked about.

4. Our lawful basis for using it

  • Contract — most processing is necessary to perform the service you have booked, or to take steps at your request before entering into it.
  • Legal obligation — invoice and payment records are kept for the period required by HMRC.
  • Legitimate interests — keeping basic records of past orders so we can honour your preferences and resolve any dispute fairly. You can object to this at any time.
  • Consent — where you have ticked a box on a form to confirm we may contact you about your enquiry. You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. Your information is handled by Christine Cawthron alone, with the following limited exceptions:

  • Website and booking infrastructure — booking and enquiry submissions are stored with our hosting and database providers, who process the data solely on our instructions.
  • Email delivery — confirmation emails are sent through a transactional email provider, which handles the message only to deliver it.
  • Accountancy — order totals and invoices may be shared with our accountant for tax purposes.
  • Legal requirement — if we are required to disclose information by law or by a regulator.

Where a provider processes data outside the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place.

6. How long we keep it

  • Active customer records — kept while you are using the service, and for two years after your last order so we can pick up where we left off if you return.
  • Invoices and payment records — kept for six years, as required for tax purposes.
  • Enquiries that do not become orders — deleted within twelve months.
  • Text messages about collections — cleared from the phone periodically, and in any case within twelve months.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it.
  • Have inaccurate details corrected.
  • Ask us to delete your data where we no longer need it.
  • Ask us to restrict how we use it while a query is resolved.
  • Object to processing carried out under legitimate interests.
  • Ask for your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis we rely on.

To exercise any of these, ring 07979 502210 or email info@chrissyironingservice.co.uk. We will respond within one month, and there is no charge.

8. Cookies

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no cross-site profiling. Any cookies set are strictly necessary ones that keep the site working correctly — for example remembering that you have submitted a form so it is not resubmitted by accident.

Because we do not set non-essential cookies, there is no consent banner to click through. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time without affecting your ability to use the site.

9. How we keep it safe

  • Booking and enquiry data is transmitted over an encrypted connection.
  • Database access is limited to the business owner and protected by strong, unique credentials.
  • Devices used for the business are password protected and kept up to date.
  • Paper notes made on the round are destroyed once the order is complete and paid for.
  • No keys, entry codes or key safe combinations are held for any customer property.

10. Changes to this policy and complaints

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a revised date at the top. We will not reduce your rights without telling you.

If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, please raise it with us first — it is usually the fastest way to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk.

Questions about your data?

Ask Chris directly. There is no data protection department to go through — the person who answers is the person who holds the records.
